Hoi! We're here to give the customary greeting upon joining a message board. Our name is Rainbow Sprinkles, we're an unsuspiciously ordinary human, and we've been enjoying the SFIA youtube show for ...uh, maybe a couple of years? We enjoy the show for the humanist looks at "what ifs," because that sort of hopemongering and encouragement to think about our agency in our descendants' future is mainly what draws us to sci fi. Well, that and nerding out about really cool things which could prolly be done, even if some might not be very practical. :D

Hello, all. My name is Allen, and I've been a fan of the YouTube channel for quite a few months. I regret that I'm just now joining the SFIA page, but as they say, better late than never. Not much to tell about myself. I have no background in science, but I'm nuts for physics, quantum physics, and futurism. I'm a former film-maker with a few credits to my name, but mostly I'm a data analyst and researcher working for various IT companies. I just wanted to say thank you for allowing me to join the group.

I've watched some youtube videos with great awe - excellent work. I would like to contribute to a better world, more just and equitable. Maybe through Technology...maybe here.
My name is Tiago Lopes and I'm an industrial engineer/MBA and when I'm watching SciFi I ask myself ...how much would that moonbase cost to build? Where can we get data from the water pumping installation? etc...
My "nom de plume" was my hero in space 1999...strange but all my friends were John Koening or Alan Carter but I always prefered working smart, not hard.
    See you out there!

Hey Everyone, I'm here because I enjoy progressive views on what the earth/humanity be like in the future. I'll most likely just lurk, but know I'm watching 👀

Some may know me from the Discord, but needless to say i've been watching Isaac Arthur regular since 2016. I've seen basically a lion's share of videos at this point and for good reason- the amount of uploads, having some semblance of scale and ability to elaborate on a wide range of subjects make his videos a great resource.

As for who I am, I am a game developer who built a fictional universe because writing lore and space history is a thing I do. I also just like imagining alien worlds, despite probably not really going to the depth speculative evolution types would wish.

    Hello All!
Just signed up. Long time viewer of the Y/T vids, just now finding my way here.
    Looking forward to interesting discussions.

Interested in anything that is novel, which could be a unique way of looking at a common thing, or something new.

I work in public accounting and have been tasked with making a presentation on 'the firm of the future'.
I know some of the recent vids have touched briefly on different political structures and the impact of extended life times on one's career and how people would structure when they have children and so on.

There is so much going on today that 'feels like the future'. The robots aren't coming for our jobs; they are already here, but while they are taking certain jobs, they are creating other new ones. I learned the industry using pencil and 13 column paper and can now run my client's books from my phone.

Would be interested to know what the impact of the science and technology that undergirds so many topics would hold on the mundane things like paying one's taxes - which I know is a 'niche topic' (being charitable), but haven't seen much on this, other than 'AI this and AI that' and 'Blockchain!' - but what would that actually mean for society; everyone's every day lived experience of interacting in a political system with such advancements and yet we'd still be relegated to filing a 1040?

Case in point: Most nations have a territorial based tax system, but the US has a world-wide system. You cannot escape the tax man. But, what if we become a multi-planetary society? Surely income earned on another celestial body should not come under the sway of an Earth-bound government.

Found SFIA on YT (via Event Horizon), been listening to all the shows for a couple weeks. I'm a veteran, Jack of all trades, currently a farm hand and a commercial fisherman, have been interested in physics, astronomy, history, sci fi and futurism since I can remember. I'm also working on a patent for vertical farming (a design I haven't seen listed with the patent office but from a farming perspective would be better than the ones I've looked at there), also designed a "megacity" for my hometown (pop 6500 🤣) in my freetime, reducing its footprint by 90% allowing more farming and trees, while reducing its carbon footprint since every business that's not a factory is in there, elevator or stairs to work. Also have some questions about ONeil Cylinders...but I'll attempt to find the thread for this.
Thanks for the forum and for SFIA, it's fun, it's informative and it gives me alot of things to think about and discuss with friends and family.

Hello, my name is Keith, I have been watching his shows on & off, when I can. I am trying to remember in one episode he mentioned Dyson swarms and how little mass would be required to en globe our Sun, how much mass would it take? And thus en globed how much would this impact Sun light getting to Earth and affecting the climate?

I'm in the UK. Fan of Sci-Fi and avid reader. Being retired have a hobby writing my own Arrival novel (not likely to be published). I find the YouTube a good source of inspiration as other technical science sources. My fav past novels are Ringworld, Foundation and loads of others over the years. Journey into Space on the radio in the fifties probably started me off.
PS this website does not render properly in Firefox on my Macbook (some of the coding is poking through esp the buttons). Please, please do not ask me to make sure I have the latest version! Any suggestions welcome.
